不曉得大家有沒有聽過這句話：Eighty-six it. 這到底是什麼意思？跟 86 這個數字有關嗎？看下去就知道啦！

eighty-six 的意思

其實 eighty-six 這個俚語的來源已經不可考了，其中一個比較普遍的說法是來自餐館用語，因為 eighty-six 跟 nix「售完、不再供應」押韻，所以後來漸漸就變成它的押韻俚語（rhyming slang）啦。

所以前面的 Eighty-six it. 意思就是把某個品項從菜單上「移除」，也可以直接寫成 86 it. 來看看實際的用法吧：

Eighty-six that club sandwich on the menu. We are sold out.（把菜單上的總匯三明治拿掉。我們賣光了。）

McDonald’s eighty-sixed caramel milk tea a few years ago.（麥當勞好幾年前就不賣焦糖奶茶了。）

eighty-six a customer 則可以用來表示「把某顧客列為黑名單」，也就是餐廳不賣這個人的意思啦！也可以寫成被動的 be / get eighty-sixed。例如：

That YouTuber got eighty-sixed from the restaurant.（那個 YouTuber 被那家餐廳列為拒絕往來戶。）

eighty-six 也可以表示「拿掉某道菜裡的某個食材」，例如：

I want a bento, but could you eighty-six the rice? I’m on a diet.（我要一個便當，但飯可以不要嗎？我在減肥。）
 

eighty-six 的其他用法

時至今日，eighty-six 不只可以用在餐廳，還適用於很多一般常見的情境喔！我們一起來看看！

eighty-six 當「甩掉，分手」時，意思等同於 dump。例如：

Sabrina got eighty-sixed by her boyfriend.（Sabrina 被她男友甩了。）

另外，eighty-six 還有「取消計畫、活動」的意思。來看個例子：

Most of our projects are eight-sixed because of the coronavirus. （我們大部分的專案都因為新冠肺炎腰斬了。）

最後，根據 Urban Dictionary，eighty-six 還可以用在同事之間的開玩笑、打打鬧鬧，意思是「把你趕出去喔！」例句：

Eighty-six David! His exchange gift is so lame.（驅逐 David 啦！他的交換禮物好爛。）
